Cake, anyone?

I saw Jennifer Maguire's post recently on monochromatic stamping, in which she made a cake card, and was intrigued with the idea.  I always need birthday cards, so I found this cake stamp by Hero Arts for half price at Joann's and went for it.  I think it fit the bill!

Here is Jennifer's original post:   http://www.jennifermcguireink.com/2017/03/mono.html

I have used all of the inking products she mentioned in her post previously, but never came up with such a WOW idea!

Instead of just framing the images, though, as she did in the post, I decided to turn my images into shaker cards.  One for a guy, one for a gal!   It's a party!  Love, love this technique!

Stop and Smell the Roses!

Still playing with Rubber Stamp Tapestry!  After reading about using partial diecuts and playing around with this technique with the Aloha set, i decided to turn to my new Roses peg stamp set.  This card uses the same Cricut generated die cut center but I stamped roses all around it before cutting it out by hand.  I used some of my new Memento inks, including Love Letter.  I also used the Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen to add highlights to the roses.  And I had fun choosing the pink sequins for the shaker part of this card.  I wanted it to seem as if the stamped girls in the background, which I colored with Copics, were taking a walk in a rose garden.  I am going to use this card as an all-purpose card--I think it could be birthday, or get well, or just thinking about you.  Bright and colorful!

Tropical Shaker Card

Sometimes you just need a little bit of color in your life!   I made this card (idea from Rubber Stamp Tapestry and Lindsay Weirich) with just that in mind.

First of all, to give credit to Lindsay, here is a link to her card and video:

             http://ideas.pegstamps.com/2016/06/11/aloha-card-selective-die-cutting-technique/

Here are the details of my card:

1. I used my Cricut Explore to cut a shape that I could use as the window of my card.
2. I traced around the shape with a pencil onto the center of a 5 1/4" x 4" white mat.
3. I stamped the troical flower and foliage images using Memento inks and the Aloha peg set from Rubber Stamp Tapestry, stamping some of the images around the penciled shape and some of the them extending into the penciled shape.
4.  Following Lindsay Weirich's advice, I used color dusters to add in shades of blue and yellow around the penciled shape.
4. I cut out the shape, cutting around the images that extended into the shape opening.
5.I then made my basic shaker card with acetate covering the window.  Sentiment at top is from Hero Arts.  The colorful birds (Inkadinkado) were stamped in the center of the folded white card and colored with Copic markers to match the colors of the Memento inks.
6. The shaker is filled with some fun tropical confetti I found in the party section of Hobby Lobby.
7.  Lastly, and I don't think you can see it in this photo, I went over the stamped flowers and foliage with Spica glitter pens, matching the colors of the flowers.

The main difference between my card and Lindsay's is that I used my Cricut to cut my shape, rather than using a physical die.  I love using my Cricut whenever I can when I die cut.  I have the Cricut subscription so I have access to thousands of images.  In this way I don't have to purchase lots of expensive physical dies to get variety in my cardmaking.  Here is more information about the Cricut Explore:

I am sending this card to someone who needs a little cheer in her life.  Wouldn't it be fun to get this card in the mail, along with the bills and junk?!!

Autumn Dinner Party

A few nights ago I went to an autumn dinner party with a few close friends.  The food was fabulous!  We had roast beef, potatoes, acorn squash, and salad with apple pie for dessert.  My favorite was the acorn squash with cranberry.  Here's a picture:

As you can see, we ate a lot of it!  I took one of these home for the next day!

I made a little "welcome autumn" card for everyone at the party:

This is another of the shaker cards I love so much.  I used the usual Paper Trey Ink supplies with background paper from an old Basic Grey line:  Indian Summer.  I filled the shaker with some confetti sequin leaves I found in my stash.  Everything old is new again!  Sequins are all the rage and I have to say I have a fair supply of all kinds that I have collected through the years.
About the leaf embellishment:  This is a Hero Arts leaf stamp that I stamped in Clearsnap's Alpine pigment ink and then sprinkled various embossing powders over:  orange from the Stampendous "Painting with Powder" line, a sort of matte gold from Ranger, and an old Ranger Adirondack Terra Cotta color.  I have to say that like sequins, I am glad I have collected a lot of various embossing powders in my day.   And unlike what some say, mine don't seem to go "bad".
I hope you like the card!  I liked the food and the company!

Happy Birthday to You!

Happy Birthday to you!  This card is for you!  I know I have missed lots of birthdays, so consider this your card from me!  I had a lot of fun making it.  The background stamp of the shaker is Hero Arts Birthday Blackboard K5872 which I inked with a beautiful Clearsnap orchid pigment ink.  I then assembled the shaker using my Paper Trey Ink Shakers and Sprinkles kit, using some Valentine heart sequins for the shaker element.  I also have made this card with shaker silver sequin stars, which I like even better.  The stamped cupcake is also Hero Arts, which I "iced" with my new white Wink of Stella glitter pen.  I added pink glitter glue and some rhinestones and beads to decorate the cupcake.  I think this card looks good enough to eat!
